What Is the Original Manufacturer & Date?

Start by finding out when the scaffolding in question was originally manufactured, as well as the name of the manufacturer. This is the bare minimum information that any seller should be able to provide—and if they're unable to, then you'll want to move on. Ideally, you'll want to only purchase used scaffolding equipment that is less than 10 years old and was made by a reputable, well-known manufacturer that is still in business.

Have Any Repairs Been Made?

It's not uncommon for scaffolding equipment to need some basic repairs and reconditioning over time. However, even the smallest repairs should be documented so you can be made aware of them when you buy. If a seller isn't sure whether scaffolding equipment has been repaired or reconditioned, or if they are unable to provide you with documentation on this, you'll want to move on.

When Was the Scaffolding Last Tested?

Scaffolding equipment should be safety tested not just when it is first manufactured, but again any time it is repaired or reconditioned. If you're buying used scaffolding that has been repaired at any point, then, you should be able to get some information on when the equipment was last tested and what the results of the safety testing were.

Is the Equipment Still Under Any Warranty?

Ideally, your purchase of used scaffolding should come with some kind of basic warranty or guarantee. Depending on the age of the equipment itself, it's possible that it could still be under the manufacturer's original warranty. Keep in mind, however, that the seller will likely need to fill out some paperwork at the time of sale in order to transfer the warranty over to you.
